Empty Hand Combat
(Dumpag)
Dumpag is the ancient indigenous fighting art of the aborigines of
Negros and Panay Islands of the Philippines. It is an art of open
hand techniques (slapping, hacking, finger jabbing) and the use of
elbows and legs for limb destruction. The objective is to end the
confrontation immediately and not to grapple (wrestle). So in
practice, it is quick, effective and deadly.
The Filipino Dumog is a very rare art today. Dumog can be found
mostly in the Southern part of Negros Island and in the island of
Panay in the province of Antique, Philippines. This can be found in
the small barrios where it became the farmers form of survival,
past time and entertainment.
Dumog follows the cultural practices of the early forefathers based
on the Philosophy of Kali, "One must believe in life not death, one
must believe in success not failure, one must believe in good health
not sickness". It is always the principle in Dumog that in the event
of an encounter or a combat challenge, there is a complete
determination to win.
